Impeachment – A Solution?

Well, Well, Well. Lets just get to the point. I am not supporting the move. Not because I am a fan of Mr. Musharraf, but because I am tired of other power brokers doing the same thing as him and getting away. The present state of politics are in no way different to the times of Mr. Ayub Khan or Mr. Nawaz Sharif (1998). It is like a traditional way of removing some one in command in our country.

I second Mr. Makhdoom Amin Fahim’s stance on this occassion. Despite the fact that he may also be supporting the move of impeachment, however he is more of the idea that the government should not place the matter as a priority or make it a reason for not paying attention to other important matters at hand.

Okay, so consider for a moment that the world saviour (Mr. Musharraf) no longer remains the president, what exactly would happen to the millions who sleep easily because of him. US journalists remark the fact that the only reason why world population sleeps so comfortably in their houses is because they know they have Musharraf fighting against terrorism. Well not a point of discussion at the moment, but still worth mentioning. Read More…

Expectations from Budget 2008-09 Lost

Listening to the people’s opinions in the last night news on a Local News channel, stole my attention from my Biology notes. Interestingly enough, the people of this country do agree with me on some accord. The budget 2008-2009 that is to be presented today, has lost its value keeping in mind the present state of affairs in the country. The price hike on the necessities, the lawyers protesting with their Long March, the dis balance of power between the president and the present government, and the declining economy, one finds it difficult to ponder over so many problems at once, keeping aside his personal problems.

A country’s budget is suppose to make a difference for the common man, but sadly, that has never been the case in Pakistan. The budget division proves to be inadequate and dis balanced. This is mainly due to involvement of corrupt elements in higher as well as lower offices, who tend to keep the real figures with themselves.

The figures offered to the Reuters is of 2,010 billion rupees about US$ 2.9 billion. The budget would be targeted on subsidies on fuel, electricity and food items as stated by Mr. Naveed Qamar, Present Finance Minister, Pakistan. An interesting feature however would be a view of the defense budget, as the present government claims to disclose a very important aspect of military spending.

Whatever happens, we’ll come to see its effects after a few months. Budgets in our country have never been popular as they just prove to be a way to increase taxation and hence cause more problems to the poor, contributing to the vicious cycle of poverty. The so called popularised ease in prices always tends to prove the other way around.

With the oil prices increasing in the international market, and the growing rate of dollar, along with decreasing value of our currency, the government would surely have to make a marked difference this time. Otherwise it would just add more to the troubles of our people.

Taking law in your hands – Is that justified?

You all must be familiar with the different incidents that took place of setting ablaze a group of criminals and crooks, that tried to loot away from a group of pedestrians. Seriously hearing about it, sent chills down my spine, not that I am a criminal. But what has gone wrong with people?

I agree that our Police force has never been upto any mark, but taking law into your own hands is not the answer. Even you consider it for one moment, one may consider that beating up the culprit would have been a justifiable reaction, but setting him on fire! Isn’t that equal to murder and under section 300 is subjected to punishments like 25 years of imprisonment or even capital punishment.

Adding to my further bewilderment were the comments of the people out there.

‘ If the government won’t take action against such things, public has to stand up for themselves.’
I mean standing up is one thing but standing up and killing, thats way off the hook.

The objections to this discussion would be that what if the criminal kills you instead, then is that justified? Well who said so! That is obviously very wrong indeed but then again they are criminals. You catch them up and hand it over to authorities – Your Job is Done. Read More…

Lawyers before Long March

The lawyers ‘Long March‘ begin today at Mazar-e-Quaid, led by lawyers and joined by civil servants and political workers. The march is supposed to press the government for the reinstatement of judges, by demonstrating a peaceful procession. The march would be joined by more members along its way to Islamabad.

President Supreme Court Bar, Barrister Aitezaz Ahsan said that the participants of the march will reach in front of the Parliament in Islamabad, on June 12.
